Tony Mwaba instructs schools to restore SALONGO practice every Saturday

In a letter No. MINEPST/CABMIN/JKK/JMK/2302/2022, dated November 17, 2022, addressed to all Provincial Directors of Primary, Secondary and Technical Education (EPST), Minister Tony Mwaba Kazadi decided to reinstate the practice of organizing SALONGO every Saturday after school hours.
The EPST head’s decision is justified by the decline in sanitation standards he has recently observed in school settings, which is detrimental to the health of students and staff in educational institutions.
The SALONGO, reinstated by Professor Tony Mwaba, will consist of: the maintenance and cleaning of all classrooms and restrooms; the arrangement of desks and the cleaning of all other materials used for teaching and learning; and the maintenance of the schoolyard and garden.
“These tasks do not replace the daily upkeep of school facilities and are not intended as punishment for students, but rather as a way to instill in students, from a young age, a spirit of teamwork and a culture of environmental sanitation, as part of a renewed patriotic drive for reconstruction and a shift in mindset,” the minister wrote.
The head of the EPST emphasized that the SALONGO program must be strictly enforced.
