On Monday, May 8, the Congolese Minister of Primary, Secondary, and Technical Education (EPST), Professor Tony Mwaba Kazadi, represented the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the official opening of the World Education Summit in London. Over the course of three days, participants from around the world will discuss three major issues: How can we successfully and effectively build a school system that will shape the citizens and society of tomorrow? How can we prepare for the school of tomorrow? And what learning priorities should we focus on in a digital environment?

Following the opening ceremony, two important bilateral meetings are also scheduled. The first with the British Minister for Africa, Andrew Mitchell, and the second with Helen Grant, a member of the British Parliament and Special Envoy for Girls’ Education. The Congolese Minister of Basic and Secondary Education will participate in the closing session of this forum, which includes a roundtable discussion on the financing of education systems alongside some fifteen education ministers from five continents.

This marks Professor Tony Mwaba’s third official visit to London, taking place at the same Queen Elizabeth II Conference Center, across from the Palace of Westminster, in the heart of the British capital.

As a reminder, in July 2021, during the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) summit, the Minister of EPST met with Alice Albright, Executive Director of this international organization, to discuss the DRC’s eligibility for a grant of over $130 million. Last year, he met with Ms. Vicky Ford to finalize the details of the Axe-Filles project, which was officially launched in Kananga, in the province of Kasaï-Central, on March 19, 2023.
