As part of the effective implementation of free primary education, the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education officially established, on Thursday, April 13, 2023, the bodies responsible for implementing and monitoring the activities of the Project for Equity and Strengthening of the Education System (PERSE), as well as the provincial technical committee for the rationalization of schools and administrative offices. At the same time, Professor Tony Mwaba Kazadi officially launched the distribution of motorcycles to the educational sub-provinces of the 10 administrative provinces targeted by the project, namely: Kinshasa, Kwuilu, Ituri, Kasai, Kasai-Central, Kasai-Oriental, Lomami, North Kivu, and South Kivu. The 21 sub-provinces of Kongo-Central are the first to receive them. The head of the EPST emphasized the proper use of these vehicles, which are intended for the various staff members of these entities, particularly those on the road during their field missions. "These modes of transportation, adapted to the realities of fieldwork, must be used by the staff of these entities, particularly those on the move during their field missions," the head of the EPST emphasized. As a reminder, the Project for Equity and Strengthening of the Education System, (PERSE) is funded by the World Bank. It supports the implementation of the Sector Strategy and, in this regard, supports the sustainable implementation of free primary education in the DRC. The project’s main objective is to alleviate the burden of school fees on households through direct budget support to help cover teacher salaries and primary school operations, improve access to primary education, and strengthen fundamental education systems at the national level.
