The Office of the Minister of State, Minister of National Education and New Citizenship, expresses its deep sorrow following the tragedy that occurred this morning at Kano Elementary School, in the Masimanimba territory, approximately 350 km from Kinshasa, on National Highway No. 1. Lightning struck the school, resulting in a heavy loss of life. Several students were struck, and four of them have sadly lost their lives. The other victims, including a teacher, were rushed to the Masimanimba General Referral Hospital, where they are currently receiving appropriate care. The Minister of State extends her deepest condolences to the bereaved families and expresses her profound sympathy to the entire school and local community. She also commends the immediate mobilization of local authorities, educational staff, and health services in caring for the victims. Immediate Measures:  Administrative and school authorities have visited the scene to assess the situation, organize initial responses, and provide support to the families.  A crisis response team has been activated at the sub-district level to monitor the health of the survivors, provide psychosocial support, and coordinate assistance for the affected families. The Office of the Minister of State remains in constant contact with local authorities to monitor developments and will provide further updates as appropriate.
