The core values and vision guiding the Congolese education system to train responsible, skilled citizens committed to the DRC’s development.
New citizenship aims to strengthen each person’s individual and collective commitment to defending the nation, respecting the common good and promoting republican and societal values.
Through renewed school and extracurricular programmes, Congolese schools aim to promote the ideals set out in the Constitution: freedom, fraternity, solidarity, justice, peace and work.
The Ministry of National Education and New Citizenship therefore works with public and private institutions and civil society to coordinate promotion of new citizenship nationwide and beyond.
New citizenship rests on the Citizen’s oath, seen as a social contract binding every Congolese woman and man to one another and to their country. Every citizen is invited to make the oath below their own and to live by it.
“I swear to serve the Democratic Republic of the Congo at all times with faithfulness and loyalty;
To love and respect my fellow citizens;
To protect the common good;
And to promote national unity and fraternity.”
