Career and academic guidance

Supporting every Congolese student to discover their talents, develop their potential and choose their educational path to become fulfilled, engaged citizens.

What is school guidance?

School guidance is a support process that helps students from pre-primary to secondary school know themselves better, discover their aptitudes, interests and values, and make informed educational choices that fit who they are and what they aspire to.

In the context of New Citizenship promoted by the Ministry of National Education and New Citizenship, school guidance aims to train responsible citizens who understand their abilities and can actively contribute to the development of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Goals of school guidance

1

Discover talents

Help each student identify their strengths, natural skills and areas of excellence to build positive self-esteem.

2

Choose a suitable path

Guide students in choosing streams (general, technical, vocational) based on their aptitudes and the needs of the Congolese labour market.

3

Develop autonomy

Encourage students to make thoughtful decisions and take responsibility for their educational and career choices.

4

Promote equal opportunity

Ensure all students, regardless of gender, background or economic situation, have access to quality guidance.

5

Prepare for active citizenship

Train citizens who understand their role in Congolese society and can contribute to sustainable national development.

6

Reduce dropout

Prevent school leaving by helping students find meaning in their pathway and build motivation.

Guidance by level of education

Pre-primary education

At this level, guidance focuses on awakening and discovery:

  • Developing curiosity and exploration
  • Identifying the child’s natural interests

  • Developing social and emotional skills
  • Preparing for entry to primary school

Primary education

At primary level, guidance aims to:

  • Explore different learning areas
  • Develop critical thinking
  • Encourage perseverance and effort
  • Prepare the transition to secondary school
  • Instil New Citizenship values (respect, solidarity, justice)

Secondary education

In secondary school, guidance becomes more specific:

  • Choosing a stream (general, technical, vocational)
  • Exploring careers and sectors
  • Preparing for national examinations (EXETAT)
  • Guidance towards higher education or vocational training

  • Strengthening civic engagement and community service
