The Minister of Primary, Secondary, and Technical Education (EPST), Professor Tony Mwaba Kazadi, visited the Moteyi Institute in Mbandaka, in Equateur Province, on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. The school had recently been renovated by his ministry’s School Infrastructure Directorate.

The Moteyi Institute, which houses three schools within its grounds, was in a state of severe disrepair that had long disrupted the education of nearly 2,000 students attending the facility as a result of the reform making primary education free.

In March 2022, the renovation work was launched under the direct supervision of Minister Tony Mwaba, on the instructions of the President of the Republic, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, with the involvement of the School Infrastructure Directorate of the Ministry of Education, Primary and Secondary Education (EPST). The challenge was met after nine months, to the great satisfaction of teachers, parents, and students in this part of the country.

"The Head of State had instructed us to rehabilitate the Moteyi Institute. We did so with the School Infrastructure Directorate of our ministry, which has teams at the national and provincial levels. We have rehabilitated the largest complex in the province, and we are proud of this on behalf of the President of the Republic, to whom we say thank you! We, along with the people of Équateur and particularly those of the city of Mbandaka," said the head of EPST at the end of his visit.

Professor Tony Mwaba urged the national government to place its trust in the Ministry of EPST’s Infrastructure Directorate, which, in a short time and at minimal cost, has succeeded in giving the Moteyi Institute a fresh new look. He plans to replicate this model in other provinces of the DRC.
