The Minister of Primary, Secondary, and Technical Education (EPST), Professor Tony Mwaba Kazadi, convened all senior officials from his ministry on Monday, May 15, 2023, for yet another weekly meeting in the CREK Room in Gombe, a gathering that took place following his official visit to Europe. Among the topics discussed was the issue of the management bonus included in payroll, which affects both the various executives and staff members in his sub-sector.

In his remarks, the head of the EPST noted that certain directors-general of services and some administrative staff are deliberately seeking to worsen the situation, particularly by unfairly and unjustifiably excluding a category of employees who are nevertheless recognized by the state. Professor Tony Mwaba protested against this petty behavior, even though he had already suggested several potential solutions, including physical verification to weed out fictitious recipients and retain only the true beneficiaries of the bonus.

On the spot, the minister summoned the Secretary General of the EPST to his office to clearly understand what is holding things up, in order to urgently resolve the situation for the benefit of the staff and executives of his ministry who are waiting impatiently.

Another issue addressed was the conduct of the 2023 State Exam’s out-of-session tests. On this subject, the Inspector General of the EPST presented a mid-term report and an overview of the status of the certification exams across the country.

Minister Tony Mwaba expressed his satisfaction with the success of the first phase of the State Examination, noting that he takes pride in knowing that, in his absence from the country, his staff carried out high-quality work.
